high levels of bioluminescence

Description and Comments

Not sure whether red tide is an appropriate term here. We spotted an enourmous luminescence in Atlantic Ocean- it started on 8th June and lasted till 13th. It started suddenly with a glow of waves striking my porthole so strong that it kept me awake at night and receded slowly uo to the level of dim glow and ended when gale hit us near Ireland shore. There was a diffuse blueish green luminescence with a dots of distinct pulsating points of intensive green light - looking like some bigger glowing organisms. Our approximate starting position was 51.8 N 27.8 W. Sea was rough to moderate. It was not milky sea as the light was induced by motion
