Carinaria japonica -- Bodega Bay, CA -- 10/14/2016

Description and Comments

Over 50 heteropods -- Carinaria japonica -- washed up on Salmon Creek Beach in Bodega Bay, California. The largest individual was over 150 mm long (see photo). This observation followed stormy conditions (Typhoon Songda). Other gelatinous animals included Thalia democratica, Chrysaora fuscescens, Thetys vagina, Corolla spectabilis, and a prayine siphonophore.
